GLOBAL - Fidelity Investments, Redington, Royal Mail Pension Trustees, Länsförsäkringar, Storebrand Livsforsikring, SWIP, Ludgate Investments, Pioneer Investments

Fidelity Investments - Abigail Johnson has been promoted to president of Fidelity Financial Services, consolidating all of the asset manager's core businesses under her leadership. She will now oversee Fidelity's financial services businesses - asset management, retail and institutional brokerage, retirement and benefits services, and corporate operations and function support groups. Johnson has worked at the company for more than 24 years. Edward Johnson III, her father, serves as chief executive and chairman.

Redington - The investment consultancy has appointed Patrick O'Sullivan, a former Watson Wyatt investment consultant, as vice-president. He will focus on devising bespoke investment strategies for clients and delivering advice on asset and liability management. He joins from Prisma Capital, an alternative investments boutique, where he helped structure bespoke products to institutional investors.

Royal Mail Pension Trustees - Joanna Matthews is to replace current chair Jane Newell in September, with Newell stepping down after eight eventful years that recently saw the Royal Mail Pension Plan transfer most of its liabilities and assets to the UK Treasury in an effort to relieve the company of its sizeable pension deficit. In addition to working at Sackers as a partner, Matthews is currently chair of trustees at the Electricity Supply Pension Scheme, Mirror Group Pension Scheme and the pension fund for UK employees of Siemens.

Länsförsäkringar - The Swedish insurance and pensions provider has appointed Göran Laurén as CIO for its asset management division. He replaces Gustav Karner, who left the company last year. Karner later joined the Nobel Foundations to head up its asset management division. Laurén has been working as acting CEO for the division and will also remain in this role.

Storebrand Livsforsikring - Geir Holmfren has been appointed managing director. He has been with Storebrand since 1997 and is currently acting managing director in the company's life arm. Holmgren is chairman of the board at Norsk Pensjon, the national pensions portal, where Norwegians can get an overview of their pensions.

SWIP - Alan Bridges has been appointed investment director for UK rates on the global rates team. He will be responsible for all aspects of the management of gilt and index-linked bond funds. He joins from UBS Global Asset Management, where he was a senior portfolio manager. 

Ludgate Investments - The private equity investor has appointed Bernard Bulkin and Ekaterina Sharashidze as non-executive directors. Bulkin is currently senior adviser at Vantage Point Capital Partners. Sharashidze is currently a managing partner at Ocean Capital Holding and an independent director on the boards of Punj Lloyd and Renaissance Services SAOG.

Pioneer Investments - Nicholas Pothier has joined the company as senior portfolio manager on the multi-asset team. Based in Dublin, Pothier will manage Pioneer's multi-asset global thematic fund of funds. He joins from HSBC Global Asset Management, where he was senior portfolio manager.
