NETHERLANDS – Dutch banc-assurer ING has appointed Stan Beckers as the new chief executive at ING Investment Management International as of 1 July.

Beckers, who has more than 30 years' experience in global finance and asset management, is to succeed Gilbert van Hassel, who will leave ING after six years in his job.

Most recently, Beckers was managing director and co-head of BlackRock Solutions in the EMEA region.

Over the last 15 years, he has been a member of the supervisory boards at KAS Bank and Robeco, and sat on the investment committees of a number of pension funds.

Beckers has also served as head of investments at WestLB Asset Management and Kedge Capital, and chief executive and CIO at Barclays Global Investors (BGI) Alpha Management Group.

At BGI, he acted as CIO of its European Active Equity Group.

Beckers began his career in 1979 as professor finance at Leuven University in Belgium, after completing a PhD in business administration at the University of California, Berkeley.

He later established and managed the international operations of Barra, a provider of investment-decision support tools, which was eventually acquired by MSCI.

Beckers joins ING IM as its parent company accelerates preparations for an IPO of its European insurance and investment management business.

De Nederlandsche Bank, the Dutch regulator, has already approved his appointment.
