EUROPE - Angel Martinez-Aldama, director general of Spanish fund association Inverco, succeeds Jaap Maassen, director of pensions at Dutch ABP, as chairman for the European Federation for Retirement Provision (EFRP).

Joanne Segars, chief executive of the UK's National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) and Marcello Messori, chairman of Assogestioni, the Italian Asset Management Association, have also been elected as directors.

At its General Assembly Meeting on Monday, the body also re-elected Pierre Bollon, director general of the French Asset Management Association (AFG), and Klaus Stiefermann, managing director of German Association for Occupational Pension Schemes (aba - Arbeitsgemeinschaft für betriebliche Altersversorgung e.V.).

Martinez-Aldama commented he wanted "to continue his predecessor's efforts to ensure that EFRP remains the leading voice on supplementary pensions in Brussels" and "will strive to guarantee that the innovative text of the IORP Directive is acknowledged and fully explored".

Outgoing chairman Maassen, who held the position since October 2004, will continue to serve as a first vice-chairman (see list of board members below).

"I am very proud of the work achieved. EFRP has supported its Membership to ensure the sound implementation of the IORP Directive," Maassen said.

"The Federation has also successfully established its Central & Eastern European Countries Forum - CEEC Forum. EU-enlargement has significantly changed the European pension landscape and EFRP is working very hard to secure an ongoing dialogue with representatives of the new Member States pension systems."

Christian Böhm, head of the Austrian Pensionskassen association FVPK was named   as the second-vice chairman of the EFRP.
