UK – Peter Murray, the former chief executive of the Railways Pension Trustee Co Ltd. And chairman of the National Association of Pension Funds, has joined EPIC Investment Consulting.

EPIC said Murray has joined its investment panel which advises pension scheme trustee boards, taking the number of panelists to eight.

“I am delighted that one of the most experienced and highly respected pensions experts in the country has decided to join EPIC Investment Consulting,” said chief executive Chris Edge. “Peter Murray’s background and experience will greatly enhance the services which EIC can provide for pension trustees.”

Murray became CEO of Railways Pension Trustee Co. – where he remains a trustee director - in 1997 and executive chairman of both Railways Pensions Management and Railpen Investments. He was chairman of the NAPF from 1997-1999.

“EIC’s panel structure with its members regulated by the FSA, provides a vital mechanism to keep pension fund advisers fully up to speed with developments in the markets and the investment industry overall,” Murray said.

“I also strongly believe that there is an additional need for individuals with strong all-round experienced to help trustees interpret the primary advice which their existing actuarial and fund management advisers already provide. This is precisely where EIC fits in.”

Edge told IPE in an interview that the idea behind the firm is gaining acceptance. “My sense is we are gaining momentum on the core proposition. He said the firm has clients in “single figures”, though he declined to name them.

“People are beginning to come to us now on the investment consulting side and also the training and education proposition.”
