UK – London-based investment management group, Gartmore, has appointed Chris Burvill as head and lead fund manager of UK equity income. He will report to Jon Thornton, head of UK equities.

Burvill joins from Investec where he worked for the last ten years, most recently as head of UK equity income. With overall responsibility for about £1bn (€1.6bn), he was also lead manager for a number of Investec’s unitised income products and investment trusts,

Prior to joining Investec, Burvill spent nine years at Commercial Union. Overall, he has over twenty years in the investment management and stock-picking fields, including four as an equity analyst.

Says Thornton: “We believe Burvill’s notably contrarian investment style complements our own existing approach. He looks for something the wider market has missed.”

Gartmore had over £50bn (€79.5bn) in assets under management worldwide at the end of June.
