The Latvian government has set up a working group to consider reform of second pillar pensions following on from legislation passed in June, to come into effect from January next year, allowing third pillar private pensions.

The Latvian State Insurance Supervision Inspectorate which will license and supervise the new pension funds is currently receiving advice from the UK Government's Know-How fund.
