Mellon chief quits to join AXA
** Mellon CEO Condron leaves to join AXA Financial **
Christopher Condron, president and chief operating officer of Pittsburgh based Mellon, has resigned to join New York based AXA Financial, subsidiary of AXA Group, as president and chief executive officer. He is succeeding Edward Miller, who will remain as a member of the company’s supervisory board and as a senior adviser to Henri de Castries, chief executive officer at AXA. Condron will also become a member of the group’s management board.
There are no current plans at Mellon to replace Condron: Martin McGuinn, chairman and chief executive officer and Steve Elliott, chief financial officer will be in charge meanwhile.
** Gartmore’s new Euro equity manager **
Tim Callaghan has been appointed as portfolio manager to the European equity team at London based Gartmore Investment Management, as of May 29. He has been an investment manager since 1991 covering pan-European markets and has particular experience in managing pension funds.
Currently, Callaghan works for Morley Fund Management, focusing on European utility, insurance and pharmaceutical sectors. Previously, he worked as a portfolio manager for BG Pension Funds Management.
** Pensions lawyer promoted to partner at Cameron McKenna **
Mark Atkinson has been promoted to the position of partner in the pensions team at London based legal firm Cameron McKenna, which he joined as an assistant solicitor in 1994. He is also a member of the company’s pensions ombudsman unit, which advises on how to avoid complaints to the ombudsman.
Atkinson is an associate of the Pensions Management Institute and has served on its national external affairs committee and its London committee. He is also a member of the Association of Pension Lawyers’ legislative and parliamentary committee.
** Tokyo analyst joins Dresdner’s global equity team **
Jonathan Bolton is joining the San Francisco based global and international equity portfolio management team at Dresdner RCM Global Investors on June 18.
Bolton has spent the last 14 years working for investment manager Schroders, mainly in its Tokyo office as a research analyst, as well as a retail and an institutional portfolio manager in Japanese equities.
** BAM expands European investment team **
Simon Hallett has been appointed as senior European investment manager at Baring Asset Management, leading the research of technology companies at the firm. He will be based in London and will report to Neil Robson, head of European equity at the company.
Hallett has 11 years of investment experience and joins Baring from investment adviser IAI International where he was deputy head of international investment and senior fund manager of European equities.
In addition, Sylvia Solomon will re-assume management responsibility for the company’s German growth trust, which she has been involved in since 1998. Solomon has also assumed co-management responsibilities with Maria Polycarpou of the manager’s continental Europe select trust. Polycarpou manages the company’s French growth fund.
