UK - Cleanaway, the European waste management company, is to be advised by international law firm Hammonds on its occupational pensions schemes.

Cleanaway, which is a subsidiary of Brambles, the world’s biggest supplier of pallets, is one of the largest waste management providers to industry and local government.

Hammonds’ pensions team has advised Brambles on final salary arrangements for two years. The team will now manage five schemes for Cleanaway with a total asset value of circa £80m (E115m).

“We had been using three different law firms and we wanted to consolidate our advisors to improve efficiency,“ said James Churcher, UK pensions manager at Brambles.

The Hammonds’ team is to work closely with Ralph Turner, group pensions director at Brambles.

“We have already struck a great working relationship with James and Ralph, and are very much looking forward to working with them on the Cleanaway schemes,” said pensions partner Francois Barker, who leads the Hammonds team.

Hammonds, which operates 14 offices in seven countries worldwide, won the contract in a three-way competitive pitch, including the incumbent law firm.
