GLOBAL - Pension Protection Fund, Nordea, Aberdeen Asset Management, Hollinger Asset Management AG, Old Broad Street Research, Aviva Investors, Russell Investments, Threadneedle, HM Treasury.

Pension Protection Fund (PPF) - The PPF has confirmed Dick Barfield will be joining the PPF Board as a non-executive director. Barfield previously worked at Standard Life as chief investment manager, and since leaving the insurer has held a number of non-executive roles including chairing the investment sub-committees of the Rio Tinto Pension Fund and the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme.

Nordea - Anu Numminen has been appointed Nordea's private economist in Finland, and will succeed Tarja Svartström, who is now head of strategy and sales support, corporate merchant banking, Finland. Numminen was most recently working in Nordea's securities services as a senior manager, business infrastructure, and has also had experience of sub-custody and clearing.

Aberdeen Asset Management - Nick Robinson currently emerging markets equities investment manager is relocating from London to Brazil to lead the firm's new operation in São Paulo. Robinson will focus on the research and management of Latin American equities and will be supported by emerging market team colleagues based in London and Singapore.

Holinger Asset Management AG - The Zurich-based asset manager, specialising in global convertible bonds, has appointed Tobias Bettkober and Carsten Kroeger as senior portfolio managers. They both join from AgaNola, where they were responsible for investment strategy and portfolio decisions. Prior to that, they headed up the global convertible bond team at Credit Suisse Asset Management in Zurich.

Old Broad Street Research Limited (OBSR) - Ben Bird has been appointed international development director at the independent funds research and investment consultancy. He joins from S&P where he helped grow the funds research business and build its client base across the UK, Continental Europe and Middle East.
 
Aviva Investors - Paul Whelan has been appointed credit portfolio manager for the firm, after joining from Henderson Global Investors where he managed the interest rate portfolio in a fixed income hedge fund. Whelan is part of the London-based credit team and reports to Stephen Lee, head of credit portfolio focus group. Rob Watson has been appointed to the new role of global product and strategic relations director. He joins from Janus Group, where he was managing director and vice president of the firm's global key relationships and product consulting teams. Watson will be based in the Chicago office and report to Eric Gerth, global business development director in London.
 
Russell Investments - Steven Lowe has been appointed senior consultant in the firm's consulting and advisory services team, based in the London office. Lowe has previously worked as a partner in the new business division at Pension Corporation, and as a senior credit portfolio manager for Legal & General.

Threadneedle - Kris Haber is to join the company in mid-November to develop and lead Threadneedle's business in North America. He will be based in New York and report directly to Crispin Henderson, chief executive of Threadneedle. Haber joins from Lazard Asset Management, where he was managing director - global alternative investments. As part of his new role he will also take charge of and manage Threadneedle's hedge fund business globally. William Lowndes, previous head of US and Asia distribution, will now focus solely on building Threadneedle's business in Asia.

HM Treasury - Alastair Clark has been appointed as senior adviser on financial stability issues. Clark had previously worked at the Bank of England as executive director for financial stability and as an adviser to the governor on financial sector issues before retiring in 2008.
