UK – London-based pensions management and actuarial consultants Punter Southall has acquired pensions consultancy firm, BGJ. BGJ was founded in 1993 and specialises in the corporate pensions market, offering advice on all aspects of corporate pensions to both companies and individuals.

BGJ will be known as BGJ Punter Southall and will operate as a separate entity from its base in Wokingham. Its four founding members, John Batting, Edwin Bruce-Gardner, David Gulliver and Gareth Jones, will become principals of the new company and take on management roles within the wider group.

Punter Southall will continue to operate under the same moniker. A spokesman for Punter Southall says there are no major plans to restructure either company. “Punter Southall is effectively taking a majority interest in BGJ but there will be no changes to working practice or job losses for either Punter’s 240 staff or BGJ’s 70 odd,” he says.

Stuart Southall, co-founder and chairman of Punter Southall, says: “both businesses have achieved steady growth over the years since they were set up and both share similar philosophies.”

Adds Batting, BGJ managing director: “we see this as the best way of moving forward by providing more scope to our clients and our staff.”
