UK – Index provider FTSE has set up a consultation exercise to garner views from UK-based market users over proposed changes to the design of the FTSE SmallCap index.

Suggested changes include fixing the number of constituents at 400 stocks and reviewing the index quarterly rather than annually.
FTSE says the changes could be implemented by the end of the year subject to the necessary approval.

The changes would bring the FTSE SmallCap index in line with the design and review of both the FTSE 100 and FTSE 350 indices.
FTSE says investors and companies using the index would also benefit from increased transparency and improved liquidity.

The consultation period will run until the end of April before a review takes place in June.
