FINLAND - The Local Government Pensions Institution (Keva) has released the shortlist of candidates to be interviewed for the position of chief executive.

Keva announced earlier this month that 20 people had applied for the role, following the resignation of Markku Kauppinen in July over allegations of corruption.

On the long list of candidates was Kalevi Hemilä, who is currently managing director at Etera Mutual Pension Insurance Company. (See earlier IPE articles: Keva chief resigned ahead of exoneration and Etera top man aims for Keva CEO role)

The shortlist of eight candidates for the role includes:

Kalevi Hemilä; Timo Viherkenttä, deputy CEO of Keva, Jari Sokka, executive director for statistics and actuarial affairs at Keva, Merja Ailus, president of the Federation of Public and Private Sector Employees (Jyty) Pasi Holm, managing director of the Pellervo Economic Research Institute

The shortlist also includes three - unnamed - hopefuls from various public, local authority, finance and banking organisations in Finland where they hold senior positions.

The application process will be completed on 4 December 2009 and the new CEO will then be appointed by the council.
