UK - PricewaterhouseCoopers has hired Hewitt Associates’ Raj Mody for its UK pensions practice.

“His appointment as a partner in the UK pensions practice within PricewaterhouseCoopers Human Resource Services business, is an important part of a major expansion programme for the firm’s multi-disciplinary UK pensions practice,” PWC said.

PWC said it was seeing “significantly increased demand” for pensions specialists who can offer wider business skills and commercial acumen, as companies grapple with pensions.

Mody will be based in London and be responsible for PWC’s pensions relationships with a number of major clients.

“Demand for pension specialists with more wide-ranging commercial acumen has been fuelled by recent legislation and related developments, leading to a huge increase in demand for the multi-disciplinary pension specialists at PricewaterhouseCoopers,” said PWC pensions partner Marc Hommel.

“We are delighted to have Raj’s talent and expertise join our growing team. Within the last few months, a number of actuaries have joined us from the traditional pensions actuarial consulting firms, reflecting the changing role of the pensions adviser.”

Elsewhere, Buck Consultants has hired Fraser Smart from Hymans Robertson.

He would be a principal and senior consulting actuary and manage the firm’s 40-strong Edinburgh office. He was at Hymans for more than eight years and was head of its Glasgow office.
