SWITZERLAND – UBS’s active asset management arm GAM has hired Reinhard Mueller from Deutsche Asset Management to be managing director of its Zurich office and head of European institutional business.

Mueller, who will be head of institutional and intermediary business, joined on April 1. A spokeswoman said he would be responsible for “all our institutional business” in Europe and the UK.

He will be a member of the Zurich management team, chaired by Wolfgang Humbert-Droz, chief executive of GAM Switzerland.

GAM said that Mueller’s responsibilities would “include the mutual funds business in Switzerland, Germany and Austria and all European institutional business”. He will report to Graham Wainer, group head of clients and portfolio management in London.

"We are delighted to welcome Reinhard to GAM,” Wainer said. “He is highly experienced in the international institutional markets and will undoubtedly be a valued addition to the team."

Mueller was previously in institutional sales at DeAM in Switzerland, GAM said. He is a graduate from the University of Zurich and holds a Masters in Business Administration from Columbia University in New York.

GAM, owned by UBS since 1999, was set up in 1983 and has more than 31 billion dollars in assets under management.
