EUROPE – David Copley, former Mellon UK investment operations outsourcing and fund accounting chief, has joined Northern Trust as head of investment operations outsourcing for Europe.

This is a new position. According to a spokesperson for Northern Trust, “We identified the need for an individual to lead our investment operations outsourcing activities in Europe, to meet demand from existing and new clients.

“This is a very specialist area so we are adding expertise and resources."

Previously, responsibilities for Europe sat with global head Peter Holman, who has overall oversight of Northern Trust's global investment operations outsourcing business area.

Copley, 37, who has more than nine years of investment management operations experience, joined Mellon in 2004. Before that, he was head of UK operations at Deutsche Asset Management for six years.

Based in London, Copley will be responsible for overseeing the operational implementation of Northern Trust’s investment outsourcing clients, which includes the migration of investment managers’ back and middle office activities to Northern Trust’s technology systems.

He will also play an integral role in developing the overall expansion of Northern Trust’s outsourcing technology and systems capabilities – a vital ingredient in ensuring Northern Trust continues to be well positioned to meet the needs of new outsourcing clients in the future, said a release.

Commenting on the appointment, senior vice president and Northern Trust global head of investment operations outsourcing Peter Holman said: “David’s wealth of experience in investment management operations brings us even more breadth and depth of expertise and added senior resource to help us meet our expansion and client service objectives.”

A spokesperson for Mellon could not confirm whether Copley has been replaced yet.
