UK - Mercer Human Resource Consulting has named former Watson Wyatt European managing partner Alan Whalley as its new UK chief executive.

Whalley, who left Watson Wyatt in December last year, will take over from Simon Regan who will focus on his role as head of Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Whalley's most recent role at Watson Wyatt Worldwide was as US regional manager and, before that, as managing partner for Europe and head of UK benefits. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and the Pensions Management Institute.

Whalley was managing partner of Watson in Europe from 1999 to May 2004 when he was succeeded by Babloo Ramamurthy.

Mercer said he would "focus on growing Mercer's revenue, reputation and market share including the development of cross-business service offerings and leadership of the client relationship management teams".

"We are delighted to have secured a candidate of Alan's calibre for this key leadership role. Given his reputation, past experience and solid understanding of the UK market, he will provide the future drive and direction to expand our UK business in tune with the changing needs of our clients," O'Regan said.
