The Sustainable Development Investments Asset Owner Platform (SDI AOP) has launched a new product that provides consistent sustainability outcomes data at scale.

The new SDI Outcomes dataset, unveiled today, offers comparable information on ‘carbon emissions avoided’ and ‘people served’ for over 1,600 listed companies globally.

The product builds upon SDI AOP’s widely adopted dataset that classifies revenue alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By analysing company outputs data, SDI Outcomes quantifies the products and services underlying existing revenue alignment data, converting it into consistent and comparable outcomes data, it stated.

The SDI Outcomes product addresses the growing demand for transparency and consistency in assessing real-world impacts of sustainable investments.

It comprises company-level and geographic-level data, along with outputs and outcomes information. The geographic analysis indicates exposure to specific markets, including emerging markets, while the outputs level quantifies around 100 different sustainable products and services by SDG target.

James Leaton, research director at SDI AOP, said: “The SDI Outcomes product was developed to meet client demand for this type of granular outputs data to help fight greenwashing concerns. Clients find it difficult to compare the data companies provide relating to outcomes as various methodologies are used.”

The product’s methodology aligns with globally recognised standards such as WBCSD and GIIN IRIS+, and builds on existing lifecycle analysis and academic research. It uses company revenue and production figures, enhanced by market data, industry benchmarks, and scientific methodologies to ensure robust and credible outputs.

The launch of SDI Outcomes marks a significant step forward in sustainable investing, SDI AO said, providing asset owners and managers with a powerful tool to track portfolio outcomes, align with sustainability goals, and support reporting on net zero targets and SDG objectives.
