EUROPE - State Street Global Advisors (SSgA), the investment management arm of State Street Corporation, has poached two fund managers from rivals BGI and Axa Rosenberg in a bid to boost its European equities team.

Toby Warburton, who was previously head of international equities and head of implementation research as well as leading the active UK and global equity teams at BGI's quants active quants group, will manage UK and European portfolios as well as working with SSgA's "Advanced Research Centre". 

At the same time, Fabio Agostini has joined SSGA as portfolio manager from AXA Rosenberg, having spent two years as a pan-European equity portfolio manager, and will now be responsible for managing UK and European portfolios, as well as doing quantitative research to support the firm's active equity strategies.

Both individuals will report to Mark Webster, managing director and head of SSgA's European active equity team.

This increases the SSGA team European active equity team to nine people in London and Paris.

SSGA managed $1.7trn (€1.33trn) in global assets under management at the end of September 2008.
