A World Pension Association (WPA) has been set up in Madrid by the European Federation of Retirement Provision (EFRP), the International Federation of Pension Fund Administrators (FIAP), and the National Associations of Pension Organisations.
A steering committee, consisting of EFRP and FIAP officers and representatives of US, Australian, Canadian and Thailandese associations, has been created. The WPA will be open to any other pension association not represented through the committee and its objective will be to facilitate the exchange of information on worldwide pension developments, increasing the understanding of different pension systems and promoting the development of retirement provision.
The establishment of the WPA was one of the issues discussed during the first International Conference of Pension Funds, held in Madrid last month and organised by Inverco.
