"The assets to be managed (UK equities) are valued at approximately £100m, with an option to extend to other asset classes in future," the tender states.

According to the fund's most recent report and accounts, Barclays Global Investors runs a passive multi-asset brief for the fund.

Other managers included Bank of Ireland Asset Management (active overseas equities), Henderson Global Investors (active UK equities), Deutsche Asset Management (active global fixed interest) and ING Real Estate Investment Management (indirect property).

The Council will award the brief to "the most economically advantageous tender" in terms criteria including capability, commercial, experience and understanding.

The time limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is November 11.
