UK/EUROPE – €760bn manager Barclays Global Investors (BGI) has appointed Simon Thompson as head of equity trading Europe to replace Peter (Chalky) White who is retiring after 15 years with BGI to pursue personal interests.

Thompson will be based in London and will report to both Minder Cheng, BGI’s global head of equity trading in San Francisco and Chris Thomason, head of core investments in London. He will be responsible for the global equity trading requirements of BGI’s active, index and transition products in Europe.

Thompson joins from Credit Lyonnais, where he spent ten years, with responsibility for its London-based global portfolio trading business and for managing its global electronic brokerage business. Prior to Credit Lyonnais, he worked as head of equity derivative and portfolio trading sales with Nomura International, where he worked for eight years.

BGI has also appointed Vin Bhattacharjee as head of business development responsible for intermediated investor business in continental Europe.
