EUROPE - Michael Gordon has been appointed the chief investment officer (CIO) for equities at BNP Paribas Asset Management, following his departure from Fidelity International Investments last year.

Gordon's role at Fidelity was global head of institutional investment. He left during the first quarter of 2009 when his role was merged into the global CIO role held by Nicky Richards, until her resignation in March this year.

Fidelity confirmed it was in the process of recruiting for a new CIO.

Gordon will be based in London for his new role at BNPP AM, where he will report directly to Christian Dargnat, BNPP AM chief executive and CIO of the multi-expertise investment centre there.

Gordon's previous roles at Fidelity, where he spent nine years, included global CIO, Asian CIO and acting head of fixed income. Before joining Fidelity he worked at Schroder Investment Management in Australia and Wardley Investment Services International.

Dargnat said: "I firmly believe that Michael's arrival will establish us as a top tier asset manager in equities in the institutional arena, with Europe and Asia being the geographical areas where we will reinforce our capacities.

"Michael has extensive knowledge of equities, a strong track record, a profile well adapted to our multi-local organisation and a recognised capacity to motivate teams."
