Index providers Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) and Standard & Poor’s have joined forces to launch a new global industry classification standard. The classification system consists of 10 economic sectors aggregated from 23 industry sectors, 59 industries and 123 sub-industries. It covers nearly 6,000 companies.
They hope the move will ease the in-vestment research and management process. The global financial community needs standard industry definitions to support asset allocation and portfolio analysis, MSCI says.
