FRANCE - The Nice-based business school Edhec and Axa Investment Managers have created a research chair on regulation and institutional investments.

This three-year programme will begin by looking at "the influence of institutional and regulatory framework [IFRS] on the financial management of pension funds in Europe," the school commented.

Edhec said in a statement the initiative has been launched on the back of a study into the impact of the international financial reporting standards and the Solvency II directive on the financial management of European insurance companies.

"It became clear that the interaction between regulation and institutional investment management was a key issue for European institutional investors," according to Edhec.

A spokesman for the school told IPE today the chair will in its first year specifically look at the UK, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Germany and Italy.

He added the chair will, for instance, look at case studies of best practice among pension funds, alongside studying the regulations to gauge the impact on pension funds' financial management.
