The European consultancy office of William M Mercer represented by Geoffrey Furlonger has won a European Commission tender to study ways of converting the pension arrangements for all European Union (EU) civil servants into a fund-ed or partly funded arrangement.
The European Parliament re-quested that the European Commission carry out the study because it was concerned that while the EU was urging members to address the problems of pay-as-you-go (PAYG) it was continuing to meet the pension requirements of its staff through a PAYG arrangement.
The study will apply to all EU civil servants which includes staff in the Parliament, Commission, European Court of Justice and in EU delegations worldwide.
