PE AWARDS - Connie Hedegaard, European commissioner for climate action, is to be one of the keynote speakers at the 12th IPE Awards seminar in Copenhagen on 29 November.

Highly respected and influential, and Denmark’s youngest ever MP, Hedegaard was instrumental at the Climate Change Conference in Durban in ensuring the US, China and India signed the legally binding global agreement to cut carbon emissions.

A long-standing minister for the environment and climate change in successive Danish governments, Hedegaard was named the first commissioner for climate action by president José Manuel Barroso in 2010.

She is credited with committing Denmark to a reduction in overall energy use when she served as the country’s minister for climate and energy, as well as emphasising the need for investment in renewable sources through increased research and development funding and subsidies for the sector.

During her time in government, she hosted the 2009 UN Climate Change conference in Copenhagen.

Prior to joining the government of current NATO secretary general Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Hedegaard enjoyed a successful career as an author and journalist, anchoring a daily current affairs programme on public broadcaster DR2 for six years.

Pension funds still looking to enter the awards can do so until 14 September.

Registration is also currently open.

Pension funds should register now for the opportunity to secure one of the remaining subsidised places available.

IPE will also welcome nominations for the Outstanding Industry Contribution and Pension Fund Personality of the Year awards, with the latter a new category.
