NETHERLANDS - Former Petercam Netherlands managing director Edwin Klaver says he has started his own asset management consultancy, aimed at professional investors.

As Klaver Partners, he will be focusing on “selecting and marketing a limited number of investment funds, based on a personal relationship with the founders/owners”.

At the moment his main commissions are for Singapore-based Quant Asset Management, or QAM, and Petercam Capital, the fund of funds business of private merchant bank Petercam.

Klaver said he selected QAM “because of its dynamic quant platform, which enables them to successfully manage large equity hedged portfolios”.

“There are great opportunities for institutional investors in these kind of systematic, consistent and disciplined strategies,” he said.

QAM currently manages the QAM Asian Equities Fund and the QAM Global Equities Fund. “The company is planning the launch of a European Equities Fund in the first quarter of 2006,” Klaver said.

According to Klaver, 42, his clients are “a combination of international and independent asset managers, e.g. pension funds, insurers and fund of funds” – though he declined to name them.

As managing director of the Dutch Petercam office as of 2001, Klaver was responsible for business developments in the Netherlands. Most recently he was active on their fund of funds side.

Earlier, he was a director of institutional equity sales for Merrill Lynch in London and Zurich.
