GLOBAL – Asset manager Franklin Templeton Institutional (FTI) has formed a new global consultant relations group to co-ordinate its global sales, marketing and client servicing activities as well its investment teams.

The group, which will be targeted exclusively at the consultant community, will be led by London-based William Babtie, who up to now has been director of marketing for UK and South Africa and international marketing services. He will report to William Yun, FTI’s president.

The group will be formed around a nucleus of experienced FTI personnel, including Dennis Rothe and Michael Poremba of US business development, Alison Shaw of product management, and Matthew Philpott of global request for proposal management.

“Investment consultants play an increasingly influential role in the institutional marketplace, acting as gatekeepers for trillions of dollars in retirement and non-profit assets,” said Yun.

FTI is owned by Franklin Resources, which includes asset managers Franklin, Templeton, Mutual Series and Fiduciary Trust. Based in San Mateo California, the group has $425bn of assets under management for 9m investors worldwide.
