UK - Index provider FTSE Group is to launch eight tradable indices that will go live with Exchange Traded Funds issued by Barclays Global Investors’ iShares division.

The FTSE European Index Series – designed “to allow fast and efficient trading” – will go live on November 18, FTSE said in news release.

ETFs are securities that track indices but have the flexibility of trading like a stock.

It added that the new index series covers eight of the most traded sectors. It says it was developed in response an increasing trend towards sector-based investment. Other products will be launched “in the near future”.

FTSE Group chief executive Mark Makepeace says: “With the addition of iShare on the new FTSE European Sector Index Series, FTSE is making a considerable step forward in the ETF market.”
