GERMANY - The Arbeitsgemeinschaft berufsständischer Versorgungseinrichtugen (ABV), an association representing 81 German pension funds, has re-appointed Ulrich Kirchhoff as the chairman of its board.

Kirchoff, a 69-year-old lawyer from Hanover, has been chairman of the association since 2000 and his re-appointment means he will serve until the end of 2008.

The ABV’s 81 pension funds cater to the traditional German professional trades, including doctors, lawyers, chemists, architects, notaries and accountants. The association itself promotes the funds’ political interests in Berlin.

According to ABV, the total number of insured by the 81 funds at the end of 2003 was 656,000. Total assets for the funds was around €81bn.
