EUROPE - Tremont Capital Management, which produces a hedge fund index with Credit Suisse First Boston and owns TASS Research, has named Jim Mitchell to the new role of head of investment management, Europe.

“In this new position, Mitchell will lead Tremont’s European research unit from London and will oversee the investment process of evaluating, selecting and monitoring managers, as well as managing portfolios for select clients,” Tremont said.

He will head a three-person research unit as well as a relationship management unit – with further hires being contemplated.

Mitchell was previously vice president of investment relationship management. He joined Tremont in April 2002 from Hennessee Group.

The Rye, New York-based firm, part of the Oppenheimer group, said he would report to Cynthia Nicoll, director of investment management, and London managing director Rupert Allan.

Tremont runs the CSFB/Tremont Hedge Fund Index and owns hedge fund industry research firm TASS Research. It has around 7.3 billion dollars in hedge fund of fund portfolios under management.
