GLOBAL - Gilbert Van Hassel has been named as global chief executive of ING Investment Management, just days after it was announced the division is to be spun off as a separate company.

Current CEO Jacques de Vaucleroy stepped down on 26 October to pursue other interests, ING officials said in a statement.

Van Hassel, who joined the company in 2007 as CEO of ING IM Europe, will report to Ton McInerney, who is set to become chief operating officer  (COO) on the ING Insurance Management Board.

At the same time, Jeff Becker has been named as CEO of ING IM Americas. He was previously COO and head of business of business management and strategy at ING IM Americas.

He succeeds Rob Leary, who will now become CEO of ING Insurance US.

ING announced on Monday it was splitting its banking and insurance divisions, and placing the investment arm within the insurance company in the interim, although the plan is to divest the asset management operation within four years. (See earlier IPE story: ING to divest investment management)
