Only 25 -30% of Italian employees contribute to their pension fund. One of the reasons for this apathy is the lack of information, according to a survey on Italian workers sponsored by Aifi, the Italian association of venture capital. Most people interviewed didn’t know or were confused about pension funds. Asked about who should manage pension funds, most employees seemed to trust banks, insurance companies and mutual funds rather than employers or trade unions, who play a very important role in the new Italian pension funds system. Nevertheless, about 40% of interviewees said they had already contributed to some kind of private pensions, mostly life insurance policies. All agreed on the need for more information.
