UK/EUROPE – Peter Jeffreys is to retire from his position as managing director of Standard & Poor’s Index Services (Europe) at the end of this month. His replacement is expected to be announced shortly.
Jeffreys says his decision to step down is based purely on personal reasons. “After 40 years in the investment business, I feel the time has come to start slowing down,” he says.
Jeffreys has been in charge of the company’s European index business since joining the company in 1997 when S&P bought Fund Research, the company he had co-founded in 1990. Prior to that, Jeffreys was a portfolio manager at Fidelity.
Most recently he was instrumental in developing exchange traded funds based on S&P indexes. He will continue to work as a consultant for S&P for another year and will take on one or two consultancy projects outside S&P.
