GLOBAL - Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has named Hamburg partner Klaus-Stefan Hohenstatt as the sole head of its global pensions practice.

Jocelyn Mitchell is standing down as co-head – though she remains will remain head of the London employment, pensions and benefits (EPB) group.

London partner Nicholas Squire has been appointed deputy head of the worldwide group, which comprises more than 100 lawyers.

"I am very pleased by the confidence my partners show in me," Hohenstatt said in a statement.

"With our network of excellent EPB teams in all major European markets we are taking a leading position internationally, which we will continue to strengthen through even more intensive collaboration and an integrated market presence." His further three-year term starts on July 1.

Hohenstatt has been a partner at the firm since 1997.
