EUROPE - Michael Kinney joins Mercer to head its European implemented consultancy services.

He will be responsible for developing new integrated investment services and solutions as well as ensuring delivery of existing implemented consulting and fiduciary management services, Mercer said.

The consultancy announced it will "establish these services in the UK and Ireland before expanding into other relevant European markets".

Kinney, who joins Mercer from Bramdean's multi-manager research team, explained the range of services will cover " the construction of specialist and alternative portfolios to total fiduciary management".

"Demand for outsourcing of investment decision-making is increasing in a number of markets, not least because of the ever-increasing complexity of investment arrangements," Andrew Kirton, worldwide partner and European head of Mercer's investment consulting business, commented.

Implementent consulting where the consultant also makes the day-to-day investment decisions and chooses managers has been popular with institutional investors especially in the US and Australia for several years.

Kinney joins from Bramdean where he was research head in the firm's multi-manager business.
