UK – Robert Birmingham has been named the president of the Society of Pension Consultants, and will take over from Donald Duval when he completes his two-year term at the end of May.

Birmingham is the managing director of Entegria, the benefits consulting division of Hogg Robinson.

“I am honoured to have been elected as incoming president of the Society of Pension Consultants,” he said. “The society is a most prestigious body with a long history of positive contributions to the UK pension scene.”

“The framework of pensions in the UK is changing furiously and is set to continue to do so in the face of impending UK legislation, EU directives and new accounting standards.”

He said the group had a “vital role to play” - working with Government, employers and others to ensure that sufficient incentives are in place to support the continuance of substantial work-based pensions in the UK.

The SPC is the representative body for the providers of the advice and services needed to establish and operate occupational and personal pension schemes and related benefits.

SPC members include accounting firms, solicitors, life offices, investment houses, investment performance measurers, consultants and actuaries, independent trustees and external pension administrators.
