Aon in talks to buy ABN Amro’s Consultas actuarial unit

NETHERLANDS – Aon Consulting’s Dutch arm is in talks to buy actuarial consultant Consultas from ABN Amro.

Aon Groep Nederland said it is in negotiations with the Dutch bank to buy Zwolle-based Consultas. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

A spokeswoman for ABN Amro said: “We’re not making a loss on it.” She said Consultas has been part of ABN Amro since the 1970s and that the sale is part of its strategy to focus on core business.

"With this acquisition, we will strengthen the competitive position of the Aon Actuarial Advisory Group, which is part of Aon Consulting Nederland," said Reinier Hinse, an Aon Nederland director and chairman of the Aon Consulting board.

"It will improve our position in the Dutch actuarial consultancy market."

Aon said the planned acquisition would not affect the jobs of the 56 Consultas staff, who will become Aon employees.

Consultas’ general director Hans Bosman said: “Aon gives us access to the international market. Becoming part of Aon also gives both parties the opportunity to grow, and in this way we will take a step forward together."

Consultas focuses on large companies and their pension funds and comprise the entire range of pension- related activities.

Last month US-based Aon said its first-quarter consulting revenue was boosted by good growth in Europe and the UK.
