An “Impact Taskforce” created under the UK’s G7 2021 presidency has revealed its membership, which includes Marcus Svedberg, investment strategist at Swedish buffer fund AP4, and senior figures from BlackRock, Temasek, Schroders, and other investment institutions.

Announced by the UK government in July, the Impact Taskforce is to focus on fostering and facilitating discussions and recommendations about impact transparency, integrity and trust. It is also to investigate ways to create financial vehicles that can deliver socially and environmentally beneficial investments around the world.

In addition to investors, the new taskforce comprises leaders from academia, business, public policy and the social sector.

“We have been asked by the G7 Presidency to give advice on how we can mobilise private capital for public good at scale and with integrity,” said Nick Hurd, chair of the Impact Taskforce. “This is a critical question given the level of investment needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and other commitments.

“I am delighted by the diversity of perspective that we have assembled. It is already clear that our members are very engaged with the important task.’’

Nearly a third of taskforce members are based in non-G7 nations and half of members are women, the Taskforce noted.

Hurd, its chair, is a former UK MP and minister who chairs the Access Foundation for Social Investment and led the UK government’s work to scale the development of impact investment market between 2010-2015.

The Impact Taskforce has two working groups and a steering committee. Participants in the latter includes Michele Giddens, partner and co-founder of Bridges Fund Management; Roger Ferguson, former president and CEO of TIAA in the US; and Sandra Boss, global head of investment stewardship at BlackRock.

Svedberg, who has been at AP4 since 2018, is a member of the working group on instruments and policies to scale impact investment.

Other individuals involved in that working group include Eliza Foo, director, impact investing, at Temasek; Nadia Nikolova, lead portfolio manager, development finance, at Allianz Global Investors; and Stephanie Pfeifer, CEO of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change.

The other working group is focused on impact reporting. Institutional investor members of that group include David Blood, founding partner and senior partner at Generation Investment Management; Frédéric Samama, head of responsible investment at Amundi; and Peter Harrison, CEO of Schroders.

The full list of taskforce participants can be found here. The taskforce held the first in a series of meetings in early August and is expected to deliver a final report to G7 governments in December 2021.
