GLOBAL – Barclays Global Investors has named Boston Consulting’s Rohit Bhagat as its new chief operating officer.

BGI said he would have responsibility for technology, operations, finance, strategic planning, human resources, legal, compliance and risk.

He replaces Rich Ricci, who became COO at sister firm Barclays Capital in January this year.

Bhagat, 41, will report to co-chief executives Blake Grossman and Andrew Skirton and be based in San Francisco.

"Rohit brings a wealth of relevant experience to BGI," said Grossman. "He has worked across a broad range of financial services, with extensive experience in asset management and his work has familiarized him with best practices in the functional areas critical to the COO role."

BGI said Bhagat was a senior vice president at Boston Consulting, an international strategy and general management consulting firm, where he ran the west coast financial services group out of San Francisco.
