UK- Gartmore Investment Management has appointed Shamus Young to the position of head of global consulting group. Young, previously account director on the Gartmore institutional client services team, will be responsible for managing all aspects of Gartmore's relationships with investment consultants and institutional manager of managers.

Young, who will be based in London, will work closely with the sales and client service teams. He replaces Stephen Attenborough, recently appointed head of European institutional sales for Gartmore’s fund of hedge funds, and will report into Frances Davies, Gartmore’s head of global institutional business

Describing the post as “hugely significant” Frances Davies said: “investment consultants are essential gatekeepers to the institutional business arena. In the UK alone, it is estimated that around 90% of funds use their services.

“In tandem with our strong consultant teams based in London and Philadelphia, Shamus will continue to broaden our exposure to consulting firms and increase the depth of coverage of our range of products.”

Young joined Gartmore in 1997 to manage relationships with institutional pooled clients. Prior to joining Gartmore, he worked at Henry Cooke Lumsden as a private client fund manager.
