EUROPE – Gartmore Investment Management has appointed Jeff Meyer, its US-based global chief financial officer, to the new role of chief executive officer for Europe.

“Gartmore announces the promotion of Jeff Meyer to chief executive officer, Gartmore Europe,” the asset manager said in a statement. Meyer, who joined Gartmore in February 2004 from investment bank Bear Stearns, is to re-locate from Philadelphia to London.

He will report to global CEO Paul Hondros. He will oversee European commercial and operational functions and be responsible for global administration.

“Gartmore’s European operation will benefit from having local direction from Jeff as he has considerable experience within the asset management arena,” Hondros said.

Les Aitkenhead, head of investment administration, was named chief operating officer. He will head a team of 130.

He takes responsibility for information systems, performance measurement, shareholder services and investment administration in Europe.

“Les has played an active role in developing Gartmore’s top quality back office controls, as well as introducing efficient and effective controls that have enhanced the management of the company’s outsourced investment administration relationships,” Hondros said.
