UK - HSBC Actuaries and Consultants Ltd. says it has hired Jonathan Sarkar from Mercer Human Resource Consulting to be actuarial director.

HSBC said: "Jonathan will act as appointed Scheme Actuary and Consultant to a number of HACL clients. He also assumes responsibility for the day-to-day management of the London team and is involved in new business development."

He was at Mercer for 15 years, most recently as a European partner. "Jonathan combines a strong personality with proven technical and business winning skills," said Dermot Reaney, senior consultancy director of HACL. "He is a welcome addition to our team in London."

A year ago the firm hired Robert Latham from Hewitt Bacon & Woodrow as actuarial director in its pensions consulting practice. Latham remains with the firm, a spokesman said.

Sarkar will be based in London.
