Brussels shuffles pensions team
EUROPE - Georg Fischer, former director covering pensions at the European Commission, has moved from the position he held since autumn 2009 to director for social and demographic analysis.
Fischer will still have considerable responsibility for the Green Paper on pensions, which recently generated more than 1,600 comments from interested parties outside the Commission.
In another move in the European Commission's directorate general for employment, social affairs and inclusion, which is responsible for pensions matters, Antonia Carparelli has been appointed acting director of the sector covering Europe 2020 - the European Union's economic development programme - and social policies, which includes pensions.
Carparelli has been promoted from head of unit for social protection.
Meanwhile, Ralf Jacob has taken over as head of unit responsible for active ageing, pensions, healthcare and social services. He was formerly head of unit for social and demographic analysis.
His deputy head of unit, Fritz von Nordheim, has moved within the unit.
Hungarian commissioner Lázló Andor will continue to head the directorate general, while Koos Richelle will stay on as his director general.
