Lombard Odier Investment Managers – Global CIO Jan Straatman is to retire from the Swiss asset manager at the end of the year, the company has announced. His responsibilities will transfer to the company’s other CIOs overseeing the different investment “boutiques”. He plans to remain involved with Lombard Odier as an adviser and investment funds board member.

A former CIO for Dutch pension fund ABP, Straatman joined Lombard Odier in 2012 from ING Investment Management, where he was also global CIO. He has been chief investment officer at a number of companies including Axial Asset Management (where he was also CEO), Achmea Asset Management, and PVF Pensioenen. He is also a member of industry think tank the 300 Club.

Pictet Asset Management – The Swiss fund management group has hired Doc Horn as head of its total return equities team, which runs $7.4bn (€6.3bn). He started his role on 1 July. Horn joined from UBS O’Connor, the hedge fund management arm of UBS Asset Management, where he spent 11 years and was responsible for a number of equity long-short portfolios.

Meanwhile, Pictet has also appointed three new non-executive directors, also effective from 1 July. They are: Massimo Tosato, former chief executive of Schroders and a previous vice president of the European Fund and Asset Management Association; Rolf Banz, a former Pictet senior executive and director; and Richard Heelis, who retired as head of equities at the company in March.

Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) – The UK financial regulator has appointed Maggie Craig as head of department, Scotland. She is currently head of insurance and pensions policy, and will take up her new role in September. She joined the FCA in 2014 from the Association of British Insurers. Andrew Bailey, chief executive of the FCA, said the appointment was “a significant step and underlines our commitment to our presence in Scotland”.

Insight Investment – Insight, one of BNY Mellon’s asset management subsidiaries, has appointed Angus Woolhouse as global head of distribution. He previously held a similar role at Barings Asset Management, but left last year following the company’s restructure. His appointment follows those of Andrew Reid, who joined from Deutsche Asset Management as head of business development last month, and Lennox Hartman, who will join as head of EMEA consultant relations next month after leaving Aon Hewitt.

BNP Paribas Asset Management – The French asset manager has hired Sandro Pierri as global head of client group, responsible for sales and marketing. He will join in September in the group’s London office. He is a former CEO of UniCredit’s asset management business, and has also held senior roles at ING Group in Italy. He is currently working as an independent adviser and non-executive director.

Jupiter Asset ManagementMiles Geldard, co-manager and head of strategy for Jupiter’s multi-asset funds, is to step down from his roles and become a senior adviser to the company early next year. Lee Manzi, Geldard’s co-manager on the funds, will take over as sole manager. The pair have worked together for nearly 20 years. Geldard said he wanted to balance supporting the multi-asset team with his charitable work.

Acadian Asset Management – The UK arm of the US-headquartered fund manager has hired Mark Roemer as portfolio manager, working on equity, long-short, and managed volatility strategies. He joins from Allianz Global Investors where he was a portfolio manager specialising in small caps. He also helped manage the firm’s quantitative research process.

Xafinity Group – The UK provider of actuarial, consulting, and administration services has hired Jay Khimji as a senior scheme actuary. He joins from KPMG where he held a similar role. He has also worked at Aon Hewitt.
