State Street Investment Management and Van Lanschot Kempen Investment Management have agreed on a strategic partnership to expand their investment offerings in Europe, focusing on developing active exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and wider solutions for clients across wealth management and outsourced chief investment officer (OCIO) mandates.

The two firms said they will explore opportunities to combine Van Lanschot Kempen’s active management capabilities with State Street IM’s ETF platform. In addition, they plan to work together on products for both private and public markets, building on existing cooperation in liability-driven investment (LDI) strategies.

Van Lanschot Kempen is a specialist provider of active strategies in Western Europe, while State Street IM has a strong position globally in index and ETF solutions. The asset managers described their expertise as complementary, highlighting prior collaboration on integrated balance sheet management.

State Street IM currently supports Van Lanschot Kempen in hedging FX and interest rate risks for a broad range of clients.

Ann Prendergast, head of EMEA at State Street IM, said: “Van Lanschot Kempen is known for its innovative solutions and deep market understanding and client focus – which align closely with our own ethos at State Street IM. This collaboration aligns with our strategic aim of partnering with industry leaders to enhance our offerings and deepen our presence in Europe.”

Van Lanschot Kempen said the deal would allow it to broaden its range of specialist, responsible active strategies for fiduciary clients across Europe, while gaining additional scale and distribution from State Street IM.

Erik van Houwelingen, member of the management board at Van Lanschot Kempen responsible for investment management clients, said: “This collaboration allows us to offer a broader platform of specialised, responsible active investment strategies and further strengthen the solutions we provide to our fiduciary clients across Europe.”

The partnership reflects ongoing interest among European asset managers in expanding ETF capabilities and aligning with global players to scale product innovation.
