The Swedish Pensions Agency’s (Pensionsmyndigheten) head of analysis is to leave the organisation after 30 years because of a disagreement about his non-work activity.

Ole Settergren is leaving the agency, having worked at the official body since its inception in 2010, and before that at its predecessors – the National Insurance Board (Riksförsäkringsverket) and the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan), the agency reported last week.

Anna Pettersson Westerberg, director general of the agency, said: “It is with a somewhat heavy heart that I can tell you Ole is leaving.

“Ole and I agree and both think it’s the best thing for the Swedish Pensions Agency,” she said, adding that he was leaving after 30 years of “fantastic contributions to the pension system”.

“I hope we see each other again in the future, in the work around a well-functioning pension system,” said Pettersson Westerberg.

The agency said Settergren would remain there for some time, leaving as soon as a handover could take place.

However, Elin Berglöf – currently head of the asset management and actuarial unit within the analysis department – has been appointed as acting head of the analysis department, the agency said.

Settergren said he had been in talks with Pettersson Westerberg for some time.

“In those conversations, we have come to the conclusion that we don’t share the same view on whether my private commitments are compatible with the role as head of department at the Swedish Pensions Agency,” he said.

“Also, my appointment as head of department is expiring, which has contributed to me now leaving after 30 years in the pension system’s service,” he said.

Settergren said things felt good, and that he was satisfied with what he achieved and looked forward to doing other things.
