Beating the index took on a very positive note in Poland in a competition run by a daily newspaper and sponsored by the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Just before Christmas, the results were announced of a competition the ‘Stock market game’ run by the daily Rzeczpospolita. The 10 best virtual investors in the competition were presented with their cheques as prizes with the winner netting 50,000 zloty (E12,500).
The game lasted from September until November last year. During the game the virtual investors had to invest a virtual amount of 100,000 zloty in securities listed on the exchange and over 11,000 participated in the game. The winner showed a rate of return close to 200%, while in the period the WIG20 index rose by 17%.
