PGGM discontinues chief economist role

NETHERLANDS – The Dutch health care fund PGGM’s appointment of Peter Kraneveld as special adviser means that the chief economist role no longer exists at the scheme.

The title Kraneveld held “doesn't exist anymore” said a spokeswoman for the 55.7 billion-euro scheme, the second largest in the Netherlands.

Kraneveld – who has been named as special adviser for international affairs, with a brief to monitor EU legislation - remains responsible for emerging markets research.

“The strategy and research department covers the investment research issues, ranging from ALM, strategic asset allocation and dedicated economics and market research,” the spokeswoman added.

The Zeist-based fund hired Gerlof de Vrij from the Philips Pension Fund to be head of strategy and research in November last year. And in April Rikkert Scholten joined the team as investment strategist from Rabo Securities.
