IPE institutional market survey: European equities managers 2026

European equities managers 2026

Our analysis shows a structural decline in the European institutional market share in the European equities asset class in the last eight years, despite a brief post-COVID rebound in appetite.

European institutional investors now account for just over a third of the total market assets of €2trn covered by this year’s survey of 55 managers in the space, compared with 40% in 2019. Over the last five years, our total market data shows that BlackRock, Amundi and State Street Investment Management have increased their total market share in European equities from around a quarter to over a third of the total. State Street continues to lead in the institutional market segment, with a 24% market share.

IPE covers a good variety of very current and relevant topics. It is good to read the high-level, independent and objective perspectives from pension funds in other European countries; many of them are dealing with the same issues as we are, so it is interesting to learn from their experiences, especially when they are ahead of where we are on the curve.
